Gladstone Park Class 5S

Today was the turn of Class 5S to come to the CLC at Queens Park. The class were very productive and got busy straight away. While we were waiting for the rest of the class the pupils quickly logged on to the network, then logged on to Fronter Brent Nature Network and they even had time to use the digital microscopes to look closely at some minibeasts.

When the class was all together they organised themselves into teams of 3. They used the iPads to scan the QR codes in our interactive books. This linked them straight to a shoet video of the minibeast. They used the books and Fronter BNN shared area to research about minibeasts and they recorded their own notes. Once they had done their research it was time to plan and practice videoing a short report. The main jobs are Director, presenter and camera operator. It was raining so we didint get a chance to go outside to the CLC garden, fingers crossed Wednesday will not be too wet, when we go to film our reports on location.

Queens Park EAL @WHEEC

The EAL students from Queens Park CLC have been studying Habitats in their Science lessons. They went to visit the Welsh Harp Environmental Education Centre to do research. They used the Comic Book App to make pages with the photos we took.

They made video reports about different locations using the iPads. We hope you enjoy watching our video reports.

Welcome back to school.

Autumn is here and the days are getting chilly. As you know many creature find a cozy place to hibernate over the winter, so it may be difficult to find many smaller invertebrates as they are burrowing down under ground. In the CLC garden I looked under a log and found this frog hiding. I think it will go to the log pile to hibernate for the winter. In the log pile it will find shelter and food.

Malorees Juniors Class 3H

Today the sun was shining and the rain stayed away, which meant that Class 3H were able to go Stag Beetle hunting in the school orchard. Class 3H worked in pairs and used an iPad to take photos of the orchard habitats. We had an idea thet Stag Beetles had been spotted in the middle of the orchard. So we headed there and looked under the large rotting logs. To our delight we were treated to a show of female stag beetles. We carefully turned over a large log and saw about 5 female stag beetles. Then Mrs Heath turned over another log and spotted 7 female stag beetles. We were all excited and took some pohotos using the ipads. Once back in class we used the App Comic Book to create our own page about Stag Beetles. We have reported our sightings to PTES (people Trust for Endangered Species.) Please look out for Stag Beetles near you and protect their habitats.Well Done Class 3H.

Malorees Juniors Class 3W

It was a wet and windy afternoon, we had planned to go to visit the orchard but we were rained off.

Instead we learnt about Stag Beetles and the amazing story of their life cycle.

We created a Comic Book page to tell the story and some Stag Beetle Facts.

Gladstone Park Class 4JM

Today Class 4JM came to the CLC. They worked really well in their teams and quickly got busy doing some research about habitats and the minibeasts they might find. They went out to our wildlife garden and collected minibeasts and used the iPod Touces to take photos. They brought the creatures back into the classroom and looked at them under the microscopes. They were really amazing and they could see the creatures bodies, legs and antennae. They found snails and lots of slugs and they watched them move around by pumping fluid around their body.

In the afternnon they used the iPod Touches to create a Comic Book page using all their photos. Then it was presentations time. Please go to 4JM class page and watch their presentations they are FAB!!!
