Gladstone Park Class 5S

Today was the turn of Class 5S to come to the CLC at Queens Park. The class were very productive and got busy straight away. While we were waiting for the rest of the class the pupils quickly logged on to the network, then logged on to Fronter Brent Nature Network and they even had time to use the digital microscopes to look closely at some minibeasts.

When the class was all together they organised themselves into teams of 3. They used the iPads to scan the QR codes in our interactive books. This linked them straight to a shoet video of the minibeast. They used the books and Fronter BNN shared area to research about minibeasts and they recorded their own notes. Once they had done their research it was time to plan and practice videoing a short report. The main jobs are Director, presenter and camera operator. It was raining so we didint get a chance to go outside to the CLC garden, fingers crossed Wednesday will not be too wet, when we go to film our reports on location.

Welcome back to school.

Autumn is here and the days are getting chilly. As you know many creature find a cozy place to hibernate over the winter, so it may be difficult to find many smaller invertebrates as they are burrowing down under ground. In the CLC garden I looked under a log and found this frog hiding. I think it will go to the log pile to hibernate for the winter. In the log pile it will find shelter and food.

Gladstone Park Class 4R

Class 4R visited the CLC today and worked really hard all day. The sun was shining and it was heating up as class 4R explored the CLC wildlife garden. They used iPod Touches to take photos of habitats and photos of the creatures that they discovered. We checked out the bird box live webcam we wondered if the last chick would fledge the nest today. It was very hot so it slept most of the day. Class 4R used their photos to create a Comic Strip page on the iPod Touch. Then they planned their presentatins and perfomed them to the rest of the class. Well done class 4R you produced a lot of work today. Please check out their class page under Gladstone Park Menu.

Welcome to the World

If you have been watching our bird box webcam, you will know that the eggs have hatched.

They began hatching on Thursday 3rd about 4.23pm and all 6 had hatched by Friday.

The camera is alittle out of focus but you can make out the little heads and beaks wide open.

The nest is deep and the female bird sits on top of the chicks to keep them warm.

They worked really hard in their teams, first they went outside to our wildlife garden and scanned QR tags to get some information and took some notes. The teams took lots of photos using the iPod Touch and downloaded them. They used their photos to create prsentations. Please go to the Class4B page to watch them Class 4B worked really hard all day. Why don’t you go out exploring and see which creatures live in our local environment? Have fun and respect the creatures and their habitats.

Birds in my garden

Even the thick snow doesn’t stop the birds looking for food. Lucky me….I had a visit from a pair of Wood Peckers and a Goldfinch. There were lots of birds out at lunch time on Sunday. In my garden I spotted, Woodpeckers, Bluetits, Goldfinches, Magpies, Pigeons, Blackbirds, Robins and Seagulls. I don’t feed them because there are lots of cats in the gardens and they always try to catch the birds. Instead I have bushes that provide the birds with seeds and bugs to feed naturally. I hope you get to spot lots of different birds in your garden and the park. Maybe you can set up a bird feeder in your school playground to help birds survive the winter weather. Let BNN know how you get on by leaving us a comment. Happy Bird Spotting.

Gladstone Park Primary @ QPCLC

Welcome to Gladstone Park Year 5 classes.

The sun was shining for class 5E today at the City Learning Centre Queens Park. The class quickly got themselves organised and went exploring in the garden. They used the iPod Touch to scan labels with QR codes. This played a little video and the children read the labels to get some information. Then it was time to plan their video reports. Each group chose a topic to report on and a location to make their film.

Tomorrow Class 5E will be filming on location at the Welsh Harp Environmental Education Centre. Make sure you come back and see their video reports.
